Team Update: Geared Up and Ready to Roll!
With the Oxford Bike Ride just a day away, excitement is buzzing around our team! Here's a quick update on our preparations:
Big Thanks to BMR!
A huge shout-out to Tony Hart from BMR Newbury! He kicked off our day bright and early by dropping off the van keys at 8:00 am sharp. This generous support is invaluable, ensuring we have reliable transportation for the big event.
Picking Up Our Steeds!
After a productive morning tackling some gardening jobs, we headed to Velospeed at around 12:20 pm to pick up our trusty steeds – the top-notch e-bikes that will propel us through the 25-mile course.
Warm Welcome at Velospeed
Nick's wife and another fantastic gentleman (whose name escapes us momentarily – apologies!) greeted us warmly at Velospeed. Their enthusiasm was contagious! They gave us a thorough rundown of the bikes, including a pannier stocked with a repair kit – a thoughtful touch for any unexpected roadside fixes. We also had the opportunity to share the story behind our sponsored bike ride – raising awareness and vital funds for the Li family and CDH UK. Nick even allowed me to test drive another bike while Mike expertly secured them all in the van.
Fueling Up and Gearing Up for a Test Ride
Following a well-deserved lunch break, we embarked on a test ride using Strava maps. The picturesque countryside surrounding Highclere, Woolton Hill, and Ball Hill provided a stunning backdrop for our practice run. We even made a pit stop for some light refreshments at the Yew Tree garden center – a perfect way to recharge and strategize for the main event!
